Practicality in the Modern World
In the contemporary context, the practicality of the nuclear family model is increasingly called into question due to its disconnect from modern social, economic, and environmental realities.
- Economic Pressures and Rising Costs:
- Housing, healthcare, childcare, and education costs have skyrocketed, making it difficult for many families to sustain themselves without external support. The single-unit household model puts immense pressure on individual families to provide all resources on their own.
- The economic landscape has shifted toward gig work, contract labor, and dual-income households, meaning that the old model of the nuclear family (with one breadwinner and one homemaker) is less feasible for survival.

Children Lack Autonomy
Small bodies, disoriented, forming reality, home enivronment and school and in a state of vulnerability and disempowerment. It is sensed early on - powerlessness - forced into rigorous pace

Many do not see them from 9-5
Children are a mirror to the 9-5 work culture practice which is related to consumption levels in survivability standards
When i encounter them when they cannot and are not with their parents - I witness how they navigate survivability
Children exchange autonomy for a future aspirational self

ontological sense of autonomy - refers to the concept of autonomy within the framework of ontology, which is the branch of philosophy concerned with the nature of being, existence, and reality. being, existence, and reality
metaphysically navigate autonomy - refers to how one understands and exercises autonomy within the metaphysical context of reality causality, determinism, and the essence of being.
Metaphysics: (Broader Discipline + Reality and Universe)
- The nature of the universe (cosmology)
- The nature of being and existence (ontology)
- Free will vs. determinism
- The existence of gods or a higher power
- The nature of consciousness
- "What is the nature of reality?"
- "Do we have free will?"
- "Is there a purpose to existence?"
Ontology (Specific Area + Existence and Being)
- What kinds of things exist (e.g., physical objects, abstract concepts like numbers, mental entities)?
- What does it mean for something to exist?
- What categories of existence are there?
- "What does it mean to 'be'?"
- "Do abstract entities like numbers exist?"
- "Is the mind a separate entity from the body?"
Example:
- Metaphysical Question: "Is the universe infinite or finite?"
- Ontological Question: "What does it mean for something to exist? Do universals (like beauty or justice) have real existence, or are they just human concepts?"
"Do abstract entities like numbers exist?"
Platonism vs. Nominalism =[ Constructivism vs. Formalism
Platonism creates a sphere for reason
Neoplatonism??
. Philosophy of Language (Meaning Beyond System)
- Wittgenstein’s "Limits of Language": In his early work, Ludwig Wittgenstein suggested that language defines the limits of our world ("Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent"). There may be truths or aspects of reality that exist outside the boundaries of linguistic expression or formal systems. While something may be "true" in the world, our systems of language or logic might be incapable of capturing it.
- This is similar to Gödel’s idea in that there are propositions in mathematics that are true but not provable within the system; similarly, there are concepts or truths about reality that exist but cannot be expressed in language.
Existence and Selfhood:
- In an ontological context, autonomy involves the nature of the self and its capacity to exist independently or self-sufficiently within the framework of reality (I argue is always in motion). This involves not just making free choices but being able to define one's own being and essence in relation to the world.
- For example, philosophers like Jean-Paul Sartre, who operated within an existentialist framework, argued that humans possess radical autonomy because they are "condemned to be free." In this view, human existence precedes essence, meaning that individuals
- must continuously create their own identity and purpose through their actions, despite the surrounding circumstances according to the threat of physical laws, social structures, or divine will self and external determinism
- deterministic worldview, ontological autonomy might be questioned because the individual’s existence is thought to be shaped by forces beyond their control, whether those are physical laws or social systems.
- In contrast to a purely individualistic understanding of autonomy, some ontological perspectives (like relational autonomy) argue that a being's autonomy is fundamentally interconnected with other beings and the world. This approach, seen in feminist and relational ethics, emphasizes that
- no being is entirely independent, and autonomy emerges within relationships and interdependence.
what the fuck is authenticity then
the notion of entire independence is comical - we rely on so many things to live in order to think - we just take it for granted
Existentialism (Truth Beyond Rational Systems) Major gateway to theology
- Existentialist thinkers like Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir argue that certain truths about human existence—such as the need to create meaning in a meaningless world—are subjective and cannot be proven or derived through objective reasoning. These truths exist in the realm of human experience and freedom but escape systematization.
- Kierkegaard’s Leap of Faith: Søren Kierkegaard also emphasized that certain truths, particularly those related to religious faith, cannot be proven or rationally justified. One must take a "leap of faith" to believe in certain ultimate truths, such as God’s existence, without requiring proof.
- Hilary Putnam and Roger Penrose explored how these theorems suggest that human consciousness might not be fully explainable through formal systems (like computational models of the mind). There may be aspects of human cognition and understanding that go beyond what formal logic can describe, pointing to truths about consciousness and the mind that are unprovable within a given system.
R.D. Laing, a psychiatrist with an interest in existential philosophy, explored how psychosis might be seen as an extreme form of existential crisis. In his view, the experience of psychotic breakdowns could be interpreted as a reaction to the overwhelming, often alienating nature of existence. Laing’s work suggests that individuals in psychosis might be grappling with existential themes in a more intense and less controlled way than those experiencing existential despair without clinical symptoms.
Philosophers like Friedrich Nietzsche explored the dangers of nihilism (the belief that life lacks inherent meaning), warning that such views, if not balanced, can lead to destructive or unstable mental states. In individuals already vulnerable to psychosis, nihilistic or existential despair could potentially act as a stressor.
The connection between philosophy and mental health
Jean Piaget and Lawrence Kohlberg, provided more robust models of moral development that are based on observable stages and cognitive growth, rather than Freud’s idea of moral internalization through the superego
Existential despair may contribute to psychological distress that could lead to or exacerbate psychotic symptoms, especially in individuals who are predisposed to mental health disorders. Psychosis may incorporate existential themes in distorted or delusional ways, suggesting a complex intersection of philosophy and mental health.

If reality is always forming how does that relate to time and space - is reality time and space?
if reality is always forming and we are against odds of death- does that then inform the efficiency of that reality shaping, the strategicness of that reality shaping?
Hwoever we are endowed to the aspirational aesthetic of luxury and calmness and peace and stability
A living being is placed within a domain of physical existence, in some way or form is understood and internalized and is then preceeded by identity formation
the forming of reality continues to happen and every decision every thought every belief, intention is reality formation - soo inherently subjective
What has always held true for humans? What continues to?
Social theory - silent social code , conformity in autonomy
Informed being is our reality - what is there to live for?
What is there to live for is up to us but ultimately has nothing to do with us *
in the forming of reality, our decision to continue living - our willpower - is an aspirational aesthetic which can be set in the future present or past
Any living creature has to constantly reconcile with their internal reality and external reality which are in contention + objecthood
we cannot exist without having, giving, or proposing value

Contention between internal (mind and related sense of self) and external reality (physical body)
These are constantly encountering and interacting with each other through social conversation, shared labor, community and civil society.
They configure autonomy on a macro and micro scale
when you are someone with extensive wealth and can take up massive space - what does that to your mind, more specifally your sense of self and consequent behavior and beliefs?
when that shapes and orients your thinking and identity what are the continued ramifications on reality?
reality is in flux in constant shape shifting and molding - reality time and space are constantly configured
femicide is a reality because every time a man slaughters honor kills or mutilates a woman because in his reality it bc she is a woman - it distorts and forms reality on a larger scale - it is not natural to kill?? it is learned, developed, and mental illness
if i interject myself into this conversation - what is the most common factor? largest solution? generalizations
Vision is crucial in the formation of reality - if what we see is what informs our brain the most, what we see is very crucial for surviving and it is internalized in our mode of surviving - bc some of the things in which we live for are highly irrational. Furthermore the consequences of our existence for these aspirational aesthetical lifestyles, performances, accolades, and wealth have dissassociated humanity from the consquences of its consumption, empathy is lost
what is there to live for is based in what?
We are born into a preconditioned state and we learn them through how we are perceived in the world - they are coerced and not natural
there needs to be greater individual accounability for the shaping of our reality - when does it involve ourselves and when does it not and involve others
Think about what you really want and what you really need - wanting a life of money and wanting a life that doesnt require money

We experience our physical body ( in and with ) is reinforced by how we are perceived

current events: brindge between philosophy and social justice

Being in the physical body- how we come to know ourselve through violence when we are something we didnt choose to be

Inner self brings to the table mental health
When we talk about the aspirational aesthetic in society, which if you do not uphold you are deficient, what does that do to a sense of a future (diff. in quality of life example)
We cannot all have the same quality of life just as much as we can
Aspirational aesthetic will always be in contention with practicality and it reinforced by what we visually consume ( it remains abstract and disassociated from lived reality that way) we enter a a chamber of escapism
Media + vision | movies! huge impact
Exclusivity of academic information
contemporary academic research is disconnected from mass media ( misinformation )
One way to approach this is through the lens of ontology (the study of being) and epistemology (the study of knowledge). In an ontological sense, we might think of reality as something that exists independently of our perceptions, an underlying structure that "is" regardless of how we see or interpret it. However, epistemologically, our understanding of reality is always mediated through perception, culture, and individual experiences, making it seem fluid and mutable.
Key perspectives to consider:
- Reality as a process: Instead of seeing reality as a static "thing," we could consider it as a dynamic process. This would align with philosophical traditions like process philosophy (e.g., Alfred North Whitehead), where reality is understood as a constant state of becoming rather than being.
- Reality as a relational construct: In this view, reality isn't something that exists independently of our experiences but is instead shaped through interactions between people, objects, and environments. Phenomenology (e.g., Husserl, Merleau-Ponty) explores this, where reality is experienced through lived experience and perception.
- The role of perception and subjectivity: From this perspective, reality is both stable and fluid, because while there may be objective facts or material conditions, they are always interpreted through our subjective lenses. This echoes postmodern ideas, where reality is often seen as fragmented and influenced by social, political, and cultural forces.
- Quantum theory parallels: In physics, reality is not as stable as classical Newtonian models suggest. Quantum theory reveals that at the subatomic level, things like particles can exist in multiple states until observed. This scientific perspective mirrors the philosophical idea that reality may not be a fixed "thing" but a series of possibilities that solidify only when engaged with.
Factor: The consequences of actions—particularly in terms of collective well-being—are a key component in evaluating ethical behavior.
Many ethical systems emphasize the importance of individual autonomy—the ability to make free, informed choices. This idea is central to concepts of human rights, and ethical truths are often framed around the protection of personal liberty and self-determination.
Factor: The value placed on individual autonomy influences the creation of ethical principles, especially in terms of consent and agency.
Philosophers have long debated whether ethical truths can be grounded in objective principles or if they are inherently subjective. Some ethical theories aim for universal standards (e.g., Kant's categorical imperative), while others are more context-dependent (e.g., relativism, utilitarianism). Utilitarian ethics, for instance, evaluates the greatest good for the greatest number, suggesting that ethical standards are mass-dependent to some degree. deontological ethics (like Kant’s)
Factor: Different philosophical schools (deontological, consequentialist, virtue ethics, etc.) offer frameworks for determining what is ethically true, sometimes claiming universal applicability, while others emphasize the importance of situational or cultural specificity.

“You are most real when you are not perceived.”
Who are you when you are alone? When it is guaranteed you will not be visible to the eye of another, what do you do?

How does visibility enable survivability. Perception orchestrates our inner reality and percpetion is a subjective reality.
Consensus reality is our society.
Freedom in the American ideological landscape is a hiearchized by perceived autonomy. Or how much space you can take up as a person without consequence.

Fixating on the word “Sacred”
If I am most real when I am not perceived (in reference to public media platforms) I am most unreal when I am perceivd. The play of performance in aesthetics of identitly politics as it exists for survival but also personal delusion in the internalizaton of the external experience because we start off wanting to stay alive, and the idea of self.
When we know that no one is looking where can we go. Privacy in aesthetic perception. I am most real when I am not perceived because when I am perceived there is a layer of a person upon me. I layer myself on what I see to take so literally what we see. An evolutionary product of our brain reacting to hyperstimulation and extensive decsion. So much so we invest in our own death through self-desctructive and harmful tendencies (addiction and bodily sufering) in order to keep going (caffeine, stress, nicotine, sleep deprivation etc.). The cyclical failure that we cannot do what we want to do and so that we are powerless. Splurging versus sustaining. Dejecting how you understand reality and resist. Truly wanting to want a nuclear family and home in the Bay Area. You have to participate in the economy. Houseslessness is to be hypersurveilled. To live off the land in the urban infrastructures we have is diabolical. It is a experiemental game of resources. Detach from idealized aesthetics and acknowledge what is wrong that is harming us all. We have idealized selves to pursue, lifestyles, people to support (willpower) If you stop though to are closer to death. (Corporate jobs and healthcare) To be alive is to live so many deaths.
“living creature consists of soul and body: and of these two, the one is by nature the ruler, and the other the subject.”
“the soul rules the body with a despotical rule, whereas the intellect rules the appetites with a consitutional rule and royal rule. And it is clear that the rule of the soul over the body, and of the mind and the rational element over the passionate is natural and expedient; whereas the equality of the two or the rule of the inferior is always harmful.
