A Looming Face
11 x 17 in
pencil on paper

This piece expresses a self-portrait embedded in the coastal landscape where I live. The inspiration for the art blossomed from the question, “What would I think of myself from the perspective of existing in the sky?”

It is the physical opposite of being grounded on Earth. I imagined what it would be like to look down at myself, at the scale of an ant. Maybe I would notice my physical movement as the expression of a liminal mind.

Prisms of Perception
3 x 3 ft
Acrylic on Muslin

In this painting, I interlaced two points of view. The viewer gazes at the scene of a young woman reading a magazine. Her pages are reflected behind her. It is an enigmatic scene for there is no face to see, only bodies. There is a cheeky touch in this piece where the advertisement of a woman’s face aligns with that of the reading subject.

This painting is the product of an assignment at the Rhode Island School of Design for the class, “From An Idea to Meaning.”

An Ode to My Childhood Home
18 x 24 in
Acrylic on Canvas

I merged elements in the landscape of my childhood neighborhood, where I lived for a year after graduating from Brown University. This work honors my sentiments of liminality during that period. I was highly uncertain of the future, and the catapult into the space of my childhood felt like a collision of worlds.

My walks to the local park and ample time to sit and observe inspired this piece. A blur of nostalgia and lack of linearity.

More descriptions coming soon.
